LANSING — Today, the Michigan House of Representatives held their annual Sept. 11 ceremony to commemorate Michigan first responders lost in the line of duty during the past year, honor those lost in the 2001 attacks and to recognize first responders serving in Michigan communities today. State Rep. Terry Sabo (D-Muskegon), who hosted Deputy Damien Cathey of the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department during the ceremony, issued the following statement:

“I am pleased to be able to recognize Deputy Cathey today and honor his service to the citizens of Muskegon. Without the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe, we could not enjoy the freedom and opportunities we have now that are so often taken for granted in our society. It is important to take the time to recognize the sacrifices made by all our brave first responders on this day when we remember the police officers, firefighters and citizens we lost on Sept. 11.”
