LANSING – State Representative Pam Byrnes (D-Lyndon
Township) today announced that Washtenaw County
Michigan Works! has been awarded $194,212 from the state to provide
training that will help workers upgrade their skills and boost local businesses' ability to compete in the global
economy.
"This is great news for Washtenaw
County and for Michigan,"
Byrnes said. "These funds will help give our companies the resources they need to create high-tech jobs of the future.
The 21st century jobs plan is working and it will be an economic boost for our state and our region."
The new funding comes through the state Department of Labor & Economic Growth, which oversees the No Worker Left
Behind program. This award from the No Worker Left Behind program provides customized training to help residents who are
already employed upgrade their skills so they do not become at risk of losing their jobs.
The Washtenaw County
Michigan Works! will administer the $194,212 award. The agency assists
residents seeking jobs and workers interested in training, as well as local employers.
"This grant will will continue to move Michigan in the right direction
and help put our state on the cutting edge of technology," Byrnes said.
