LANSING – Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes (D-Lyndon Township) today applauded the approval of a loan from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to the village of Dexter as part of an improvement and rehabilitation project that will eliminate sanitary sewer overflows and improve the integrity of the sewer system at the wastewater treatment plant.
"The village of Dexter and the DEQ should be commended for working together to protect our water resources," Byrnes said. "As the Great Lakes State, clean waters are essential to our way of life. We must continue to act as responsible stewards of our waters, which play such a vital role in the health of our residents and our overall quality of life."
The $2.9 million loan is for the construction of a 400,000-gallon tank located at the wastewater treatment plant and the rehabilitation of approximately 8,651 feet of the sanitary sewer. While the loan is for nearly $3 million, more than $1.1 million are federal stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) being provided to Dexter.
